Loop-Rama
Introduction:
Loop-Rama is a simple top-down racing game where you get to build your own race track and try to complete a lap as fast as possible without losing control.
You have a selection of different track pieces to choose from and four car colors to pick. Each section of the track affects your car’s handling and speed in unique ways. To make things more interesting, you can also rotate each track piece before placing it, allowing for creative and chaotic circuits!
The Game:
Your goal is to complete a full lap around the custom track you built yourself. Different track tiles — like curves, straights, dirt roads among others — influence how the car behaves, so careful planning and sharp driving skills are required to get the best time.
Will you build the perfect circuit or create a mess of spinning tires and uncontrollable speed?
Development Process:
This was our second attempt at making a game together, and although we're still not in the gaming industry, we pushed ourselves to do something a little more ambitious than last time.
João once again made all the art while Cristiano handled all the coding and game logic in Godot. While we’ve learned a lot since our last game, there are still many challenges — especially with handling car physics and track placement — but it’s been a great learning experience.
What’s Missing:
-
Some bugs currently prevent the game from working as intended (especially after track assembly).
There's no track pathfinding implemented.
Speedometer has weird positioning.
Some tracks cannot be positioned next to each other when they should be able to.
Still, we had a great time building Loop-Rama, and we hope you enjoy experimenting with track layouts as much as we did creating the system.
